My husband and I decided to buy a big screen TV. We watched the sale adds and agreed on a 51" from the local Sears store. At the store, there were two TV's we were interested in on display. One was a Magnavox and the other was a Hitachi. The picture on the Hitachi was a little clearer and was on sale for $100.00 less. However, when we asked about it we were told there were none available to order and no, we couldn't buy the display model. When we asked why we couldn't purchase this particular model we were told it had to stay in the store on display or they would get a $2,000. fine. (and there was no manager to speak to) Also, the Magnavox was not available........even though it was advertised, there were none in the stock room.
Deciding the salesman was perhaps just young and inexperienced, we ventured on to another Sears store in Washington, PA. At this store, the Hatachi model was there, with the big red sale sign stating $100. off the original price. And once again, there were none to order and no, we could not purchase this display model. Might I add, there were absolutely NO cheaper models in the store. The only solution I can come up with is, this is a "bait and switch" scheme. Is this legal? |
