Renters Beware:
In March of 2008 I entered into a monthly lease agreement with TK Parker Construction of Knoxville, TN. Security Deposit was refundable.
Numerous problems existed with the rental and after many failed attempts to contact Mr. Parker, I notified him that I would be re-locating to another home. I provided the required 30-day notice and left the rental in excellent condition according to Mr. Parker, and he indicated he would place my security deposit in the mail to me within one week. (Though I gave Mr. Parker a 30-day notice and left the rental early, Mr. Parker was paid a full months rent to honor my 30-day notice.) Mr. Parker showed the rental immediatley after I moved and had the opportunity to obtain double rent payments during that time.
After 1 1/2 weeks passed I returned a phone call to him only to hear that my check would be returned after their monthly billing cycle which would be another 30 days. After one month and numerous phone calls to try and retrieve my deposit money, Mr. Parker finally stated to me that he was not returning my deposit and I should try whatever means I felt necessary to retrieve it.
Filing a small claim is not always the answer either. If he cannot be located to receive the summons, you are obligated to file again and again, until he's served; at your expense.
Renters! beware of dishonest landlords and poorly develped rentals. TKParker Construction Company is not a company you can trust. Mr. Parker has set a poor example for landlords in the Knoxville area. Ask for references before you rent! |
