I went to City Hair salon for a haircut and was almost immediately confronted by Emily, the stylist, about how terrible my hair color looked because it was growing out. She told me I couldn't leave it that way and it was "torture". She gave me a fast and rough shampooing and went on to cut my hair. She put a lot of stiff gel in my hair and dried it to look curly. When it was time to pay the 50 dollars for my 30 minutes there (the price range on her sign said 35-50 dollars for a cut), I asked if she could validate my parking ticket, to which she replied, "hmmm, where did you hear that we validate parking? None of the smaller businesses validate parking. I can sell you a validation sticker if you want.." So I left without parking validation, went home, looked in the mirror and realized there were some odd uneven spots in the haircut. One side was thicker than the other and she had left the front much longer than the back, which I had asked her not to do. So I called back, asked for another brief appointment a.s.a.p. to correct the problem. She said she couldn't fit me in for at least 4 days. She was very argumentative about the haircut saying that there was nothing wrong with it and that it was a "curly haircut and is supposed to look like that". Finally she said she was going to stop arguing, and after much debate about where I could fit in to her super tight schedule, she told me I could come back in an hour. I went back and heard her interacting with a customer who was getting ready to leave. She was being very friendly to her and very nice. When the woman put her handbag on her shoulder to leave, Emily said, "Oh, do you have your parking ticket?" The woman said she had left it in her car. Emily then said, "Oh here, I'll give you a couple to stick on when you get down there. There, that should get you out of here!". She offered parking validation when it was not asked for and gave it to the woman for free!
As soon as the woman was out of earshot, Emily and Bruce, the owner, started talking about what a terrible business owner that woman is and how it was no wonder it went under. They were snickering and carrying on for a while.
When it was time for me to sit down again, I did so, and was spoken to very rudely. She argued with every small observation and request (just to make the front the same length as the back and to take more hair off on the heavier side"). She said several times in a very sarcastic, hostile tone, "well if you want it perfect, perfect, perfect, all I can do is iron the whole thing out and start from scratch!" The owner stood close by smiling smugly. The whole time she was correcting all the problems with the haircut she kept saying "well, I still can't see ANYthing wrong with it". When I left, it was a lot better, but still not a great haircut for the money and certainly not worth being treated that way even if it had been a great haircut. It was very upsetting.
