Inheriting a Load of Incompetence from Bank of America
My Stepmother died on Dec.15,2007. One of her and my deceased father's investments was an IRA from Bank of America. They sent out Beneficiary Forms to be filled out and I sent mine in on Jan.23, 2008. I have 2 sisters, 2 step-sister's and a step brother who were also Beneficiaries. One of my sisters got her check on Mar. 19, 2008. I called on Mar. 27 and was told my check was mailed out on Mar 12th. Because it had been 15 days she was going to stop payment on that check and send me out a new one. On Mar 31 I called to make sure it had been done. Nothing had been done and there was no notes about my previous phone call. So I was told an escalated request was put in and given a reference #. It would take 7 days to research and stop payment and another 7 to 10 days for me to receive my check. On April 3 I called to check the status and was told a new check had been mailed out on April 2. Keep in mind each time I called I had to verify my mothers SSN, my SSN and my address. On April 11, I received a quarterly statement saying the account was cashed out. I called to check because I had still not received my check. The date on that envelope was April 6th! This time I spoke to a supervisor and he said to wait until the 15th because of it being tax season the mail might be delayed. He said the statement was mailed out from Houston Texas and my check was coming from Witchita Kansas and that could also take additional time. Once again I had to verify all my information with the supervisor. Still no check on the 15th. I talked to a different supervisor this time. It turns out they sent my check to a PO Box in New Mexico. None of us benefeciaries even knows anyone in New Mexico. The supervisor on the 11th phone call had this incorrect address in front of him and didn't even notice after I had given him my correct address! The new supervisor said she would escalate a new request to once again stop payment on the check and send me a new one, this time overnight mail. Today is April 21 and I have yet to receive my check. When I called again they have failed to send it out even though I was promised the supervisor would follow thru and make sure it was taken care of. Their reason? It's tax season and they are very busy. Today I was told it will be sent out by Fed Ex tomorrow. I asked for a written apology by an administrator and compensation for lost interest earnings. I really wonder what's next!!! |
