The US Dept. of Commerce has small business development centers. These centers were once very effective in assisting minority entrepreneurs in obtaining loans, employees, contracts and so on. It could be argued that it is discriminatory to only serve individuals who are not Caucasian and / or veterans. However, under Commerce's - Minority Business Development Agency all centers have been directed to focus on only (not exceptions) serving companies that profit $1.5 Million or more in revenues; named Strategic Growth Initiative Companies. This is double the Small Business Administration's definition of what a small business is. Why? So Commerce and politicians can subsidize big business and claim they are directly responsible for massive contract allocations, jobs created and general growth of the economy. I know this, as I am employed by under a grant from the agency. After close to 20 years we have decided not to pursue further efforts due to this ridiculous proposition.
