Dave Houde, of Straight line siding, and remodeling, also known as Superior Remodeling was contracted to replace the roof, sofit, facia, and gutters on my house.
On 4/17/07 we signed a contract, and gave him $5,000.00, 50% down as he requested. He told us the job would take a week.
On 4/22/07 he asked for another $2,000, from the remaining $5,000, to purchase the gutters, sofit, and facia, as the roof wold be finished on Monday.
On 4/28/07 he requested another $1,600, from the remaining $3,000, as he needed to pay his crew. And again the roof would be finished on Monday, and he would be installing the sofit, facia, and gutters. He did not show up on Monday, he showed up on Thursday, he finished putting the shingles on the last quarter of the roof, but did not cap it.
On 5/5/07 he asked for another $850. to replace the sofit and facia his crew distroyed, but I shold not worry, as this was coming out of his pocket not mine. And again the job woud be completed on Monday, and again it was not.
Numerous calls were made to him, and he kept promising to finish the job. The top of our house was all open as he took all the gutters, sofit, and facia off the house. The job needed to be completed as birds were starting to build nests in the open spaces.
On 5/23/07 a letter was sent to Dave Houde asking him to finish the job or return $3,450, so we could hire another contractor.
On 5/30/07 he came and picked up his ladders, and told my sister inlaw the truck was on the way, they would be right back.
On 6/18/07 we took him to small claims court, he told the judge he owed us the money, and wanted to make arrangements to pay it. $3,450, plus $223, court costs. He asked we give him 2 weeks, and we did.
The 2 weeks have come and gone, he will not answer my calls, or return my calls. |
