On Thursday, June 19, 2008, between 1 and 2 pm, my sister visited Natural Nails on North Street in Nacogdoches, TX. The owners of this nail salon refused to listen to my sister when she complained that a chemical they had just put on her hands was discoloring her nails. She went to the sink to wash her hands, and the female owner grabbed her cell phone and threatened to call the police if my sister did not pay full price, although the woman had done no nail work. My sister said that she would not pay, and told the woman to return her phone. The woman's husband then joined in, saying my sister owed them money or they would keep her phone. My sister refused, and they called the police. The police would not allow my sister to call her mother, saying that she had "caused a lot of trouble for nothing." They allowed the salon owners to continue to yell at my sister, while telling her to be quiet. She tried to explain to them that they had barely touched her nails, and so they didn't deserve full payment. Needless to say, she had to pay them full price or be arrested.
The owners of this salon were needlessly rude. When a customer says that a chemical was discoloring her nails (which it obviously was), they should have washed it off and used something else. Grabbing a customer's property and refusing to give it back because she didn't like your service is bully behavior. If my sister had been a grown woman and not a teenager, I wonder if they (and the police) would have behaved similarly.
