May 1st, 2006 I file a claim after someone sets fire to a vehicle parked next to mine. This of course melts the right side of my vehicle causing damage sufficient to total my vehicle. Next step is for the insurance company to return my call. They do return my call in a timely manner giving the initial impression of quality service. I anticipate this will be cleared up within a week.
Next phone call takes place a week later. This time I have my initial contact with an adjuster. She is extremely rude and interrogative. As if I would set fire to the vehicle next to mine. Ridiculous. Regardless, she explains this will take several weeks of investigation. Plus I have to obtain all the incident report numbers from the police and fire company. My question, "What did I pay you all for?". Obviously service isn't included in my monthly payments.
I comply and state that I want to remain informed during this process. She agrees. Understand I am not a patient man and I deserve to be compensated for the damages to my vehicle that are creating an enormous inconvenience.
She states that I can be reimbursed for a rental car. Ha. The following week I decide to finally rent a vehicle after receiving my next paycheck. I'm not sure about you but I'm not rich. Anyhow I shell out $175 for a weeks rental understanding that I will only be reimbursed for $140. Plus I can't file the claim til after the vehicle is returned.
Now you see I am 3 weeks into my claim and have still heard nothing from Safe Auto. Finally an investigator calls the day following my next call(this time I offer the assistance of my attorney) and asks more stupid questions. Stupid because they have already been asked. The same day a local adjuster(nice guy, contracted out) checks out my vehicle and estimates damages.
Next thing that happens I receive a letter stating that they will be totaling my vehicle out. This requires my shelling out more money(for a notary) where I still have not been compensated. Of course I take this straight to a notary.
They received this a week ago and I still don't have my money. Told me they sent my check out early last week. Last question, since when does it take 7-10 days to send a letter first class?
Motto, I should have known. Cheap insurance(which it really isn't for anything above minimum) equals poor service. Thanks for listening. |
